Participants will be required to have a Fitbit, which can be purchased at a discounted cost through the University bookstore. If you already own a Fitbit, you may participate in the program using your existing device. At the conclusion of the program, prizes will be awarded on an individual basis for significant improvement in their total step daily averages.

Each participant must wear the Fitbit for as much as possible each day. Each participant is expected to join the Wake Forest Fitbit private group. They are expected to participate in at least three 30-minute walking groups or three 45-minute walk-to-run groups per week. They are also required to attend a one hour orientation and purchase a Fitbit at a discounted cost if they do not already own one. Each participant will also be provided with guidelines and expectations of the Move More! Move Often! program at the orientation. Lastly, each participant is expected to complete an evaluation about your participation in the program at the end of the program.
The orientation meeting is mandatory. If you cannot make one of the orientation sessions, you will have to wait until the next round to participate.
Walking groups will be provided at two different times per weekday (Monday-Friday). Each day a thirty minute walking group will be led by one of our walking leaders at 12:00 PM and 5:15 PM. There will be a total of 10 walking groups available each week and each participant is expected to attend at least 3 of those groups per week. However, attending up to 5 or more groups a week is strongly encouraged! For individuals participating in the walk-to-run program, groups will take place Monday-Thursday at 5:15 PM. Participants are expected to attend at least 3 of those groups per week and follow the provided program guidelines on their own on days they cannot attend. These groups will begin with short intervals of walking and running, and progress to a full 30-minutes of running throughout the program. At the end of each running group, group leaders will guide participants through a light cool down and stretching.
Yes! The Fitbit is yours to keep after the challenge!
All participants are solely responsible for their own Fitbits. In the event that your Fitbit is damaged or lost, you are responsible for repairing and/or replacing it. If you are unable to repair or replace the Fitbit, then you must notify Move More! Move Often! to inform us that you will no longer be participating in the program.
Each participant will be given a Move More! Move Often! T-Shirt for joining the program. For the eight weeks that the participant is in the campaign, they will receive weekly emails with information on strategies to increase their number of daily steps, gatherings for daily walking groups, healthy recipes, and healthy ways to eat on campus. They will also receive discounts around the Wake Forest campus to help them achieve their goals.
These discounts will include:
- (1) – Intramural Sport registration fee waiver for one of the following individual tournaments: Poker, Table Tennis or XBOX
- Free Outdoor Pursuits weekend rental of one item, excluding boats (equipment subject to availability)
- Free Group Fitness single class pass
- Small group training consultation session in the Spring
- Campus Rec sweat towel
Each program will last a total of eight weeks. There will be one program per semester.
You can enroll in as many programs as you would like. When you re-enroll you will be able to continue benefiting from the discounts around campus and the weekly informative emails. You will also have the opportunity to continue improving your daily physical activity and steps and a chance to win more prizes!
Prizes will include, but not be limited to, water bottles, t-shirts, sack packs, and gift cards.
Prizes will be determined by individual increases in daily steps. The individual with the overall greatest increase in their average daily steps will be awarded after each challenge. In the first week of the program, individuals will perform their normal daily routine and establish a baseline. Individuals who increase their average steps by 50%, 75%, and 100% will be awarded prizes for each level.
Upon re-enrolling in the program, individuals must aim to maintain their average daily steps and work towards averaging 10,000 steps per day to win more prizes. These individuals who re-enroll will establish a new baseline in that first week of the program.
Try to wear your Fitbit as much as possible throughout the day, each day. It is recording all of your daily movement. The more you wear the Fitbit the better you can monitor your physical activity and the greater the chance of winning a prize!
Fitbit trackers are water-resistant. This means they are rain-proof, splash-proof and can stand up to a very sweaty workout. However, it is not recommended to swim or shower with your tracker.
